George “Shall is Different That Will” Allen
George Allen, the “Macaca Man”, continues his exemplary example of ethical behavior in the Senate by plagarizing an amendment to an appropriations bill.
Senator Durbin was the original author of the amendment. Shortly before Senator Durbin was to present his bill, Senator Allen entered the Senate Chamber and requested to speak before Senator Durbin. Senator Allen presented the amendment, identical to Senator Durbin’s with the sole exception of changing the word “shall” to the word “will”.
When asked if the amendment was identical to Senator Durbin’s, Senator Allen admitted that it was.
Interesting enough, the amendment was for providing $19 million in additional funding for the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center program, which provides treatment care and research for veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries.
This was done just before a new television ad was set to start in Virginia by VoteVets showing the impact of Senator Allen voting against additional funding for the National Guard which this administration has misused since the start of the Iraq war.
On Senator Allen’s website, right up near the top he lists his priorities. One of the priorities listed is “Strengthening and supporting America’s national defense and homeland security”.
